Description The article deals with the concept of quality of life as an instrument of evaluating medical care, including care for patients with skin diseases. Although the parameters monitored as a part of evaluating "quality of life" are purely subjective, they are increasingly used to evaluate therapeutic interventions and they can actually be given precedence over objectively measured values. Quality of life is a multidimensional concept, split into general quality of life and so-called quality of life in relation to health. The paper mentions the various criteria used for evaluating quality of life and how they are measured using questionnaires. Recently the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire has been translated into Czech from the English original, which belongs to the group of questionnaires about the general quality of life in relation to health. The newly validated Czech version is concise, simple, fully comprehesible and fits most patients. The questionnaire can be used for any illness, not only for skin diseases and it can be used to compare impact of various illnesses. The Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire can be easily filled in, the results can be easily interpreted and thus well usable for both research and clinical practice.
