Description Every disease is generally characterized by gradual disruption of homeostasis and transition into pathological state. It is obvious that if we want to treat successfully certain diseases, we need to better understand molecular mechanisms that induce pathogenesis of the type of disease. One of the approaches for study of pathogenesis of various diseases is the usage of current model organisms that recapitulate specific clinical and pathological characteristics of the diseases or establishment of a new model. In this chapter, we will concentrate on several basic models that are in our opinion the most important. In the first place, we will focus on cell lines, especially tumor cell lines.
