Description Biobanks are well-organized sources of biological materiál and all connected information available for research purposes. Most often they are founded for research purposes and they also have some applicability in the clinical setting. Each sample from a patient with a rare disease is valuable as it may hold the key for answering many research questions. In personalized medicine, therapy is based on individual biomarkers of each patient. Biobanks play a key role in this process as they contain the samples for identification of such biomarkers. This chapter is aimed at current development in biobanking with special emphasis on biobanks for patients with hematooncological diseases.
