Description Author deals with basic principle of surgery in ENT oncology. Surgery is considered to be the basic way of treating most malignancies involving solid tumours. The fundamental principles of surgical treatment with a curative intent include sufficiently radical tumour removal, removal of affected lymph nodes and careful extrication of the tumour. The opinions on removing the tumour in one piece are currently being revised, especially in cases of endoscopic resections in the nasal base area and in cases of transoral laser and robotic surgery. It is now considered to be more important to maintain safe “borders”, than to remove the tumour in one piece. The monograph discusses surgical approaches, palliative and supportive care, advances in surgical treatment and interdisciplinary cooperation and strategy for HNSCC treatment.
