Description Tumours of colon a rectum represent a very heterogeneous group due to the different clinical and molecular genetic characteristics. It is well known that the efficacy of therapy is influenced by the presence of genetic mutations, however, apart from this it has been shown that with the same way of treatment therapeutic results are different depending on the localisation of the primary tumour – colon cancer patients with right-sided tumours have shorter survival comparing to patients with left-sided tumours. This may be due to delayed diagnostics of right- -sided tumours (less apparent symptoms), and particularly due to specific molecular genetic characteristics. Thus, choice of therapy should be driven mainly by the result of molecular genetic testing, localisation of the primary tumour is an important stratification factor in clinical trials.
