| Description | The article recapitulates the basics of skin photobiology and photoimmunology and follows up with descriptions of the most common photodermatoses. Firstly, it deals with photodermatoses caused by endogenous factors, i.e. immunologically determined photodermatoses (formerly classified as idiopathic), followed by exogenous photodermatoses, i.e. photoallergic and phototoxic reactions. Porphyrias are not dealt with here, because even though they can be classified as photodermatoses in a wider sense, they are also metabolic diseases. |
