| Description | Calciphylaxis, or calcifying uremic arteriopathy, is a rare disease that develops on the basis of obliterating calcification of small and medium vessels, resulting in tissue ischemia and necrosis. This is a very serious, progressive condition that often has a fatal outcome. It affects primarily dialyzed patients, but can also occur in "non-uremic" patients. A case of a 78-year polymorbid patient with a non-uremic form of calciphylaxis with fatal outcome is described. |
