Description Malignant hypertension can be defined as a rare but potentially life-threatening pharmacogenetic disease. After exposure to triggers, which are all volatile anesthetics and depolarizing relaxants, a genetically predisposed individual develops a pathological hypermetabolic response associated with a rapid and uncontrolled rise in myoplasmic Ca 2+, in the most severe cases ending in multiorgan failure and death.
