| Description | The importance of the interpretation of acid-base imbalances lies in their high incidence in the intensive care unit (more or less severe acid-base imbalance occurs in up to 90% of critically ill patients). They lead to serious physiological changes and are often the most important manifestation of a disease leading to a critical condition (eg life-threatening intoxication, diabetic ketoacidosis). In our review, we will describe and interpret the current state of acid-base balance in plasma, and its disorders, which are most important for the clinical practice of critical conditions. |
