Description The authors investigated a group of 47 children and adolescents who during childhood were treated on account of acute leukaemia at the First Paediatric Clinic, Saint Ann Faculty Hospital in Brno. Forty-three children were treated on account of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL), only four children were treated for acute myeloid leukaemia(AML). The physical fitness was examined at the Clinic of Functional Diagnostics and Sports Medicine using the usual tests. Examination did not reveal marked pathological changes indicating restricted physical activity. Only in one patient who was treated because of a relapse of AML with high doses of cytostatics incl. antracyclines pathological changes were detected indicating restricted physical activity. In the remaining patients not serious findings were made even in those patients treated with antracyclines without cardioprotection, as was formerly common. The antracycline dose are relatively low. In children and adolescents after terminated therapy the autors recommed gradualy participation in physical training in school and in the author's opinion some sports should be also permitted.
