Description The monograph Skin Tears is primarily intended for health care professionals who care for patients with fragile skin or skin manifestations of paper skin syndrome at risk of developing skin tears and for patients with skin tears already developed in clinical practice. The content of this publication fi rst focuses on the aetiology, prevalence, and risk factors for skin tears. Terminology related to the problem is not omitted so that some manifestations of skin damage are clarifi ed and correctly classifi ed. Much emphasis is placed on preventive nursing interventions to prevent damage to the integrity of the parchment skin. Diagnosis of fragile skin injuries using standardized recommended objectifying scales and listing appropriate therapeutic interventions based on recommendations of professional societies are also an integral part of the text. The monograph also includes the results of research studies conducted by the authors focused on nurses’ knowledge of the prevention and treatment of skin tears and the management of skin tears in clinical practice. The authors’ team based their work on international literature and evidence-based practice, drawing on many years of clinical experience. The present monograph is a source of the latest information on the problems of paper skin syndrome and skin tears, supplemented by photo documentation. The high practical utility of the monograph in clinical practice may contribute to the awareness of the problem of skin tears and the improvement of care in clinical practice.
