Description In many CEE countries there is a lack of harmonization in research, teaching, and medical practice in university hospitals and medical faculties. In line with European documents related to the “New European Research Area”, which emphasize the Synergies between ERA and EHEA, White Paper explores the relation between research, education and medical practice in the academic health care system in CEE countries and presents the recommendation to overcome obstacles for a successful combination of three professional roles and creation of an attractive academic environment. Selected were thirteen topics relevant for investigation of relations between university and healthcare academic institution and position of research and education in associated health care institution that made up the content of the questionnaires. Results of completed questionnaires revealed ten topics for integration of science, academia and medical practice and indicated major areas of necessary improvement: institutional integration, defining and improving protected time for research and education, and especially research mobility through the Academia-Hospital-Industry (AHI) pipeline.
