| Description | Splenomegaly, reactive or as a result of tumorous infiltration, is a very common finding in patients with hematological malignancy. Despite this fact, the differential diagnosis of splenomegaly is very wide. According to published data, splenomegaly is caused by hematological malignancies in 16-66% cases, splenomegaly in remaining proportion of patients is caused by another disease. Identifying the correct diagnosis in patients with splenomegaly is sometimes time-consuming and complicated, in certain proportion of patients (1-2%) it is not possible to identify the underlying cause of splenomegaly despite the extensive investigation. In this review, we will focus on differential diagnosis of splenomegaly and with help of short case reports, we will try to illustrate situations, that physicians of all specializations can encounter in common daily practice. |
