Description The effects of the 5-HT1A ligands on methamphetamine i.v. self-administration were ascertained in the present study. Experimental animals were pretreated with either 5-HT1A agonist 8-OH-DPAT or antagonist NAN-190. While non-significant (NS) increase of methamphetamine intake was observed after the pretreatment with 8-OH-DPAT, the pretreatment with NAN-190 caused NS decrease of methamphetamine intake which confirm the opposite effect of agonist and antagonist of 5-HT1A receptor. Our results suggest that the stimulation or blocking of 5-HT1A receptor subtype do not play very important role in the methamphetamine dependence.
