Description Our previous experiments with sigma receptor ligands in isolated rat cardiomyocytes indicated that these receptors may play a role in modulation of contractility. It has been suggested that they might be responsible for some adverse side effects of the classical neuroleptics, antidepressants, anxiolytics and analgesics in the heart. Haloperidol is a typical sigma ligand used in everyday clinical practice with well known and repeatedly reported side effects. To explain possible mechanisms underlying these effects and to get more closely to clinical observations we used a model of isolated heart. Our data were evaluated using the wavelet analysis, an efficient tool in the assessment of short-time changes in signal morphology.
