| Description | Before the early 1980s, opioid analgesics were generally believed not to be suitable for the treatment of chronic non-cancer pain. There is a subpopulation of patients with chronic pain who can achieve sustainet partial analgesia from opioid therapy without the occurrence of intolerable side effects or the development of aberrant drug-related behavior. |
