Description In the Czech Republic tuberculos pleurisy, as a primary or post-primary disease, is found approximately in every 30th patients of the lungs. The disease is most frequent among young adults and adolescents, its symptoms often resemble the symptomis of community pneumonia. A help for diagnosis is the finding of acidoresistent metamyelocytes or the demonstration by culture of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the effusion or sputum. However, as this is a paucibacillary disease, culture verifies only some 25-30% of the cases. The three cases presented by the authors confirm that even in countries with a low incidence of tuberculosis, which is the case of the Czech Republic , physicians have to consider tuberculou pleurisy as a possibility in the differential diagnosis of of pleural effusions. In the discussion the authors outline up-to date opinions about the pathogenesis clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of tuberculou pleurisy, as well as their own experiences.
