Description Prospective studies using the ankle brachial index (ABI) have shown that a low ABI predicts fatal and nonfatal CHD and all-cause mortality in people with and without existing clinical coronary artery disease and among people with existing peripheral vascular disease. The prevalence of diabetes likely has a direct impact on the prevalence of low ABI. Our results show a association between ABI and mortality in patients with diabetes mellitus.
