| Description | The aim of the study presented below is to elaborate optimal procedure of diagnostics and interpretation of war-related injuries. The study is based on analysis of more than 1600 skeletons at 7 Moravian sites (the 5th-18th cent.). Diagnostics of traumatic changes was supported by detailed macroscopic and radiological examinations. The results indicate that it is extremely difficult to distinguish perimortal wounds from postmortal bone damage. The results of study of traumas must be compared with available iconographic and literature sources. When interpreting individual findings, it is often difficult to distinguish war-related injuries from accidental injuries. If we want to understand and reconstruct the cause of injury properly, we have to assemble a sufficient amount of information about living condition, particular war conflicts, ways of fighting, and weapons and protective equipment. The analysis of war-related injuries is limited by the condition of skeletons remains. |
