Description The age, body mass index (BMI), blood pressure (BP), and the carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) was investigated in 27 treated hypertensive patients and 23 normotensives. An additive influence of age and BMI on the development of IMT is essential only in normotensives. In hypertensives the influence of BP predominates.
