Description The objective of the antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapy is to achieve effective prevention of recurrent cerebral infarction or transitory ischemic attack. Focus is mainly on the recent knowledge of dual antiplatelet therapy and on indications for anticoagulant therapy. The anticoagulant therapy (warfarin) is recommended in patients with cardioembolic stroke. The antiplatelet therapy is given preference in non-cardioembolic stroke. Combination of acetylsalicylic acid with dipyridamole has proven superior to acetylsalicylic acid alone.
