| Description | The authors present the results after revision hip surgery for large acetabular defects. They evaluated 68 patients operated in the years 1985-2000 with Paprosky defect type 3A (32) and 3B (37). The mean age is 67,9 years and the mean follow up period 8,3 years. Results: 55 patients (80 %) remain satisfied with stable implants and good function. Six cages have been removed for aseptic loosening (8.7 %) and five for septic loosening(7,2 %), two for recurent dislocation (2,9 %). Sic hips had signs of radiological probable loosening. Harris hip score was at the average 74 points. Twelve patients did not use any support. Consolidation of bone grafts was present in 55 from 69 hips(79,7 %). Discussion: The results of revision hip surgery with large bone defect deteriorate with the time. The number of complications is comparable with other studies. Conclusion: Burch- Schneider cage is an acceptable alternative for reviosn hip surgery with large acetabular defects. |
