Description In period of 2005-2009 87 Staphylococcus saprophyticus strains originated from urine of 87 patients with the diagnosis of urocystitis were examined. In addition to testing the antibiotic resistance to vankomycin, nitrofurantoin, doxycyclin, oxacillin, amoxicillin/clavulanate, cefoxitin and sulfamethoxazol/trimethoprim biofilm was also detected via Christensen modified method. No strain of S. saprophyticus resistant to vankomycin was not found, 2 strains were resistant to nitrofurantoin (2.3 %), 9 to doxycyklin (10.3 %), 20 to oxacillin (23.0 %), 6 to amoxicillin/clavulanate and 6 to cefoxitine (6.9 %), 1 to sulfamethoxazol/trimethoprim (1.1 %). Out of 20 375 cultivation positive urine samples examined in our laboratory between 2005-2009 S. saprophyticus was detected as a causative agent of urocystitis in 0.4 % and it was often present in young women (67 strains, 77.0 %). Biofilm was produced by 16 out of 87 of S. saprophyticus strains (18.4 %).
