Description Colorectal cancer screening programmes have been proved to decrease both mortality and incidence of the disease, which is one of the most important public health concerns in the Czech Republic. Analysis of real-life cost-effectiveness is essential part of programme evaluation after its implementation. This article reviews basic methods for such studies and provides an educational review of published results, which unequivocally confirms cost-effectiveness of colorectal cancer screening. Described modeling principles are demonstrated by performing analysis of impact of the Czech colorectal cancer screening programme. According to modeling results, more than 2,000 colorectal cancer cases can be prevented by year 2015 when current participation level is maintained.
