| Description | Aims: Evaluation of changes in patients treated with conventional and self-ligating brackets – expansion in the lower dental arch, changes in the position of lower incisors, speed of nivelization and relationship between the Little index of irregularity and the length of nivelization phase. Material and methods: Examination was made in the sample of 65 patients: 36 patients (group 1) were treated without extraction with fixed orthodontic appliance and conventional brackets Omniarch (GAC), 29 patients (group 2) were treated without extraction with fixed orthodontic appliance and self-ligating brackets In-Ovation R (GAC). The parameters were measured in models and lateral cephalograms made before and after the therapy. In lower anterior teeth the length of nivelization phase was recorded. Results: Treatment with self-ligating brackets did not cause statistically significant expansion in the lower dental arch. The mean change of lower incisors angle to mandibular line was 4.17 gr. in Group 1, and 3.36 gr. in Group 2. The difference between the two groups of patients was statistically insignificant. Shorter nivelization phase was determined in patients treated with conventional brackets. Relationship between Little irregularity index and the length of nivelization phase was statistically significant in both groups. |
