February 4 marks World Cancer Day. In line with the Paris Charter Against Cancer, its goal is to raise awareness of prevention, early detection, and accessible cancer treatment worldwide. It is also an opportunity to reflect on how cancer affects our lives and why it is important to talk openly about it.

On January 15–16, 2026, a two-day training course focused on responsible and effective communication in science was held at Caucasus University in Tbilisi as part of the ETHICS project. The training was led by experts from the European Network for Academic Integrity, Masaryk University, and Charles University, in cooperation with Georgian project partners. 

A study conducted as part of the ProstaPilot project, involving experts from the Institute of Medical Psychology and Ethics, the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute, and the National Screening Center of the Institute of Health Information and Statistics, showed that men are mainly motivated to undergo preventive prostate cancer screening by personal recommendations and open discussions with their doctors.

The city of Brno has once again honored exceptional individuals. Among this year's winners of the Brno City Award, who have had a significant impact on the development of Czech science and healthcare, are two individuals associated with the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University, Šárka Pospíšilová and Marek Svoboda.
