Description The incidence of functional disorders and nodular abnormalities of the thyroid gland increases with age. Therefore, elderly patients represent a growing group of patients attending endocrine clinics. There is no significant difference in the types of thyreopathy in elderly when compared with other groups of patients. The symptoms are often inconspicuous and might be mistaken for manifestation of ageing. The incidence of iatrogenic damage of the thyroid gland, especially related to the treatment of comorbidities, also increases with age.
