Description Ihe feochromocytoma and functional paraganglioma are tumors with an excessive synthesis and metabolization of catecholamines, according to clinical signs and symptoms they are classified as so called secondary hypertensions. Their incidence rates them among rare causes of the secondary hypertension; a failure to diagnose this condition may have serious clinical consequences. The diagnosis is confirmed based on typical clinical signs and symptoms, clinical laboratory tests and imaging methods. A surgical removal of the tumor following previous pharmacological treatment with alpha-blockers represents a causal therapy. The description of our case shows diagnostic confusion in acute conditions associated with the hypertension crisis and an urgency to consider rarer diagnoses during the routine examination.
