| Description | This review article provides basic information on age categories of seniors and their characteristics, specificities of disease symptomatology, diagnostics and treatment. Attention is paid to geriatric syndromes-cognitive decline, instability and falls, immobilization, incontinency and skin integrity disorders as the main reasons of a loss of auto-sufficiency and necessity to leave their usual environment and move to an institution providing long-term care. The final part contains a section characterising the frailty syndrome. |
