Description Treatment of hypertension can be initiated with monotherapy or combination of two drugs based on the clinical situation. Mono-therapy is successful in 30% of patients with hypertension at most; the rest requires a combination of two or more antihypertensives to reach blood pressure (BP) goal values. Combination treatment is considered the most favourable strategy in inadequate control of arterial hypertension. It is particularly important to reach addition/synergy of the therapeutic effect of two or more medicinal products with different mechanisms of action using lower doses of individual components. The main reason for unsuccessful normalization of BP values is inadequate use of combination therapy, particularly fixed combinations, and on the other hand, insufficient compliance of patients. Dual and triple combination therapy of antihypertensives is advantageous for larger decrease of BP, and furthermore, For the preservation of metabolic neutrality, decrease in the incidence of side effects and improving compliance of patients.
