| Description | The elderly are the largest consumers of prescribed medications. Prescribing for the elderly is complicated by a variety of factors. The presence of multiple chronic conditions and multiple medications leads to potentially complex drug-drug and drug-disease interactions. Several tools and algorithms are available to aid clinicians in prescribing of adequate treatment. Good clinical assessment, an understanding of patient´s overal condition and individual treatment goals remain pivotal to provide high quality care and to decrease adverse drug reactions occurence. |
