| Description | Steven Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are life-threatening adverse skin reactions that are manifested by extensive epidermal shedding of the skin and mucosal epithelium. Precipitating factors include e.g. drugs, mycoplasma infections, immunizations and viruses. The SARS-COV2 virus is capable of causing a whole spectrum of pathological skin manifestations, including the most severe but rare reactions like SJS/TEN. These can occur either during the illness or during the convalescence phase. This case report presents a case of a 55-year-old woman who overcame severe covid pneumonia requiring artificial lung ventilation. Ten days after discharge from the hospital, this patient developed a multiform generalized exanthema, blisters on her palms and soles, and conjunctivitis. She was hospitalized at I.DVK for therapy and follow-up examination. Histological examination confirmed the considered dg. TEN/SJS. According to the pathologist, the finding could be related to the stated parainfectious (post COVID) etiology, but drug etiology was also considered. After intensive corticoid, antibiotic, antiviral therapy and careful local treatment, the patient's symptoms gradually regressed and she recovered fully. |
