Description The developed method can detect the moment of cell death in the population of interest based on the dynamics of cell mass distribution in space, without the use of dyes and antibodies, and can also distinguish lytic cell death (necrosis) from apoptosis. In terms of distinguishing specific types of lytic cell death - different types of necrosis, the use of their inducers and inhibitors will probably need to be better optimized, as only the desired types of cell death could not be induced and the resulting datasets did not provide specific enough material for deep learning methods for image analysis. However, the overall potential of this method is great and offers applications not only in the detection and analysis of cell death but also in the detection of other cellular processes. For QPI image analysis, a Python program has been developed for automatic cell segmentation and extraction of the analyzed parameters (available here: https://github.com/tomasvicar/Cell_deatch_analysis).
