Description Cell membranes have different permeabilty for different ions. From electrical point of view membrane can be represented by a condensator of capacitance C and loss factor. These parameters and /or the membrane impedance can be measured. The loss factor depends on the permeability of the membrane. Artificial bilayer phospholipid membranes have thickness of about 7 nm and a very high ohmic resistivity, up to 10 Mohm.cm2.
