Description Although the PCR diagnostics of fungal infections is still evolving and is not yet standardized, plays an important role and is the appropriate completion of existing diagnostic methods. High sensitivity of PCR methods is unfortunately associated also with high risk of contamination the samples with micromycetes from surrounding during the process of DNA isolation and PCR amplification. It is so important to use specific methods, to enforce anticontamination measures in high degree and ultimately to use quantitative methods for the diagnostics, that enable to determine the load of fungal DNA in sample, which is important to distinguish possible colonization/contamination from active infection. All results obtained by PCR methods is always necessary to interpret in context with results of other diagnostic methods.
