Popis | Regardless of the patients diagnosis there are some general fules by which we are quided on the neuro - intensive care unit (ICU). Pathopsyhiologically the brain is influenced by a primary brain damage caused by a vascular (hematoma, ischemia), mechanical (contusion, axonal damage), inflamatory (abscessus) or tumors (infiltrating malignant tumors) process. Nothing can be done so far with the primarily damaged brain, however the cause of the primary damage has to be minimized to prevent a secondary brain damage. Secondary brain damage is caused by increased intracranial pressure, brain edema, pressure from outside, circulation failure. Our ain in the ICU is to keep both intracranial and extracranial homeostasis within the physiological limits. |
