Popis Total sleep duration is still shorter in modern society, according to research to less than 7 hours per night. Conversely the number of obese individuals is increasing. Numerous epidemiological studies have confirmed an inverse association between sleep duration and BMI in adult population and in children. The paper presents results of survey involving 493 adults at the age of 18-65 years. In this group has not been shown statistically significant differences in duration of the sleep in relation to BMI. Although the sleep restriction is considered as a novel risk factor contributing to obesity, findings in this survey are probably influenced by other factors such as the presence of chronic diseases, genetic predisposition, dietary habits and lifestyle of the individual.
