Popis Introduction: An aneurysm in the aortic area is often found during routine investigations of the digestive tract. Elective operations show relatively low mortality (2-5%) unlike urgent procedures for ruptured aneurysm. In this case the mortality varies between 50-70%. Methods: We implanted 31 aortoaortic prostheses (4.40%), 164 aortoiliac prostheses (23.26%) and 510 aortofemoral (72.34%). We also successfully implanted 24 stentgrafts and performed 1 robot-assisted laparoscopic AAA resection. Results: We reviewed the records of 705 patients (565 men, 140 women) for AAA treatment. We conducted 471 elective and 234 urgent operations for infrarenal AAA within the past 21 years in the 2nd Dep. of Surgery at St. Anne’s University Hospital, CZ. The in-hospital mortality of elective procedures was 5.31% and 40.17% in case of the ruptured AAA. Conclusions: The patients’ prognosis depends on early diagnosis and preoperative and postoperative care.
