Popis Risperidone is an antipsychotic drug, used extensively and for this reason many side effects have been reported. Some of them are increased risk of stroke, thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, due to hyperactivation of blood platelets. Pulmonary thromboembolism is a true medical emergency and pulmonary hypertension is rapidly progressive and leads to right heart failure which may be the cause of death. Some antipsychotic agents have been reported as a risk factor for thromboembolism in adult patients with psychiatric disorders. In our case, 38 year-old-woman with psychiatric disorder who got worse in her house died in the hospital. At autopsy, in internal examination, petechial haemorrhages on surface of lungs, conjestion and edema in the section of lungs and raising of thrombus from vessel structures of lung when lung was compressed were observed and there was no macroscopic pathologic finding in the sections of vessels of lower extremities. In chemical analysis, in blood atropine, 37 ng/ml quetiapine, 4 ng/ml risperidone and in urine atropine, quetiapine, risperidone were detected. Death occurred due to acute massive pulmonary thromboembolism was reported. We aimed to discuss this case with autopsy and histopathologic findings, laboratory results in medicolegal literature.
